Two years before the Super Nintendo, Sega launched its own 16-bit home game console: The Sega Genesis. With its blazing fast processor, the console was a showstopper for many. But it wasn’t until Sega introduced its own flagship franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, that the console started to really take off. When the Super Nintendo launched, a fierce rivalry ensued. However, the two companies are on good terms now and have even done some joint ventures where Mario and Sonic appear together.
